Donald Seth Mahaney, age 82, of Newton, Illinois, passed away at 7:28 PM – Wednesday, September 21, 2022, at HSHS St Anthony’s Memorial Hospital in Effingham, Illinois.
Private services will be held. In loving memory of Don, memorials may be made to Jasper County Cancer Fund, and can be mailed to the family (Betty Nelson, 122 South Holly Road, Olney, Illinois 62450). Arrangements are under the care of the Meyer Funeral Home in Newton, Illinois.
Donald Seth Mahaney, known to his family and friends as “Don” was born on February 22, 1940, in Jasper County, Illinois, the son of John S. and Elda I. (Musgrove) Mahaney. He married Wilma L. Walker, and to this union five children were born Donald Sullivan, Maurice Paul, Michael Jobe, Betty Ann and Kevin Lee.
Don met his soulmate and loving companion Linda Foster Stuckey and spent 33 years together before her passing on January 18, 2021. Don was blessed with Linda’s family who he claimed as his own.
Don graduated from Newton Community High School in 1958. He worked at Kennedy Elevator and Seimer’s Mill for several years and retired from the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office as a jailer.
Don and Linda spent all their time together camping, dining out, fishing, and visiting with family and friends.
Don is survived by Children – Donald “Butch” (Denise) Mahaney of Newton, Illinois; Paul Mahaney of Bayfield, Colorado; Betty Nelson (Wayne Hahn) of Olney, Illinois: Kevin Mahaney (Angel Harrison) of Mattoon, Illinois; Brenda Addis, Beverly Boldrey (Roger Niemerg), Pam (Steve) Utley, Brad Addis (Sharon Helregel) and Sherri Shamhart all of Newton, Illinois, Grandchildren – Misty (Andy) Jones, Michael Mahaney (Linzy Pollard), Christina Royce, Elizabeth Mahaney, Shelby Mahaney, Amber (Brandon) Brown, Hunter Nelson, Jennifer Griffith, Rewa (Debra) Boldrey, Jessica Boldrey, Dawn Addis, Kara Addis, Shelby Addis, Jon Utley, Gene (Jenni) Utley, Daniel (Mandy) Utley, Stephanie Wagner, Leah Addis and Bambi Shamhart, Several great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren nieces and nephews also survive, Siblings – John Mahaney, Marty Garrard, Nancy Wyatt, and Dale Mahaney.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, loving companion Linda, son Michael Jobe Mahaney, daughter-in-law Patty Schuler-Mahaney, sister Mary Combest, brothers-in-law Earl Garrard and John Wyatt and a sister-in-law Marianna Mahaney and Pixie Mahaney.
