Clarence “Doc” Drake, Jr, age 91, formerly of Willow Hill, Illinois, passed away at 9:54 PM – Wednesday, May 24, 2023, at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center in Mattoon, Illinois.
Funeral services celebrating Doc’s life will be held at 10:30 AM – Wednesday, May 31, 2023, at the Meyer Funeral Home in Newton, Illinois, with Alvin Neidigh officiating. Burial will be in the Mound Cemetery near Hunt City, Illinois, with military rites by the Jasper Post #20 American Legion. Visitation will be held 5:00 to 7:00 PM – Tuesday, May 30, 2023, at the funeral home.
Clarence, better known, as “Doc” was born on October 12, 1931, in Indianapolis, Indiana, the son of Clarence and Julia May Drake. He married Margaret Ann Wilson, on July 23, 1955, and to this union three children were born Tim, Tammy, and Todd. He later married Carolyn (Foster) Schumaker, and she preceded him in death.
Doc was a lifelong farmer and truck driver. He enjoyed working and spending time with family and friends.
Doc served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War.
Doc is survived by Children – Tim (Connie) Drake of Greenup, Illinois; Tammy (Alvin) Neidgh of Oblong, Illinois; Todd (Stephanie) Drake of Jacksonville, Arkansas, Stepchildren – Adam Schumaker, Jodi (Doug) Shaw, Stormy (Andrea) Schumaker, and Isaac (Sayeh) Capps, Grandchildren – Melissa (Josh) Terry, Tate (Makaelan) Neidigh, Lacey (Matt) Lewis, Justin (Kaylynn) Drake, Tim (Jamie) Drake, Jr, Matt Drake, Ashley (Ethan) Wicke, Jesscia McDugle, and Aaron Burkhart, and 32 Great-Grandchildren.
Doc was preceded in death by his parents, wife, grandchildren Lyndsey Neidigh, Cody Drake, Abbi Shaw, and Elliott Drake, siblings Albert Drake, Raymond Drake, Leo Ridgeway, Alice Drake, and an infant brother.
