Donald Herman Deters of Teutopolis passed away on December 25th, 2024, at his home.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am Monday, December 30, 2024 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Teutopolis with burial in St. Francis Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Sunday at the church with a Knights of Columbus rosary and fourth-degree service to follow. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to HSHS Hospice or Community Support Systems. Arrangements are in the care of Bauer Funeral Home in Teutopolis.
Donald was born on February 4, 1938, in Saint Francis Township in Effingham County. Donald was the first son of Albert and Dorothy (Brummer) Deters. He married Norma Bloemer on August 30, 1958 at St. Mary’s of Help Catholic Church, Green Creek, Illinois.
Donald was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church of Teutopolis. He was a member and past president of the Holy Name Sodality. He was a member of the Teutopolis Knights of Columbus #1874 for over 50 years including a member of the Fourth Degree and a Grand Knight.
He worked for J.B. Esker, a truck driver for Siemer Milling Co., and was employed at Effingham Equity for 33 years with the last 15 years being a manager at their plant located in West Liberty, IL. After his retirement, he worked at Effingham Truck Sales.
Don is survived by his wife, Norma; daughter, Kay (Ed) Schumacher of Sigel; sons Steve (Mary), Nicholas (Nancy), Patrick (Kimberly), Chris (Laura), Ted (Sharon), Dean (Jennifer) of Teutopolis and Kent (Connie) of Dieterich; grandchildren: Christine Niemerg, Phillip Deters, Catherine Higgins, and Courtney Koebel; Brett, Taylor & Mitchell Deters; Josh, Jeremy, Jacob, Jordan, and Kaitlyn Schumacher; Ryan Deters and Jaelen Deters-Camargo; Claire Probst, Morgan Hoene, and Michael & Matthew Deters; Mikaele, Kelsey and Ross Deters; Justin, Kyle, Alex and Derek Deters; Jaden, Devin, Jolie and Dylan Deters; 29 great-grandchildren; brother, Raymond (Jeannie) Deters of Teutopolis.
Donald was preceded in death by his infant daughter, Jane Ann, his parents, sisters Mary Ann Deters, Pauletta Will and husband Ray, Betty Ruholl and husband Andrew; father and mother-in-law Arnold and Mildred Bloemer; brothers-in-law Tom, Bloemer, Albert Haarmann and Art Hoelscher; sisters-in-law Donna Bloemer and Mary Margaret Bloemer.
