Mary Elizabeth Knabe, 95, of Effingham, Illinois passed away in her home on Friday, Dec 7, 2018.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, December 13, 2018, at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Effingham with burial in St. Anthony Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday evening at the church. Memorial donations may be given to St. Anthony Schools.
Mary was born on June 4, 1923, in Omaha, NE, the daughter of Mary Ann and Alfred Mangiameli. Mary and Albert Knabe were united in marriage on August 10, 1952, and enjoyed 51 wonderful years of marriage together before his passing on October 20, 2003. Mary was a loving Italian mother and grandmother who made the best spaghetti sauce in the world. Everyone always looked forward to dinner at her house. She was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Church in Effingham.
Surviving are: sons Tom Knabe and wife Jeanie, Mark Knabe and wife Janet, both of Effingham, and daughter Lisa Knabe of St. Louis; five grandchildren: Justin Knabe and wife Shelby of Ocala, FL, KaeLee (Knabe) Ross and husband Russell of Dunellon, FL, Jenny (Knabe) Weber and husband Blake of Effingham, Joe Knabe and wife Megan of Effingham, and Ethan Knabe of St. Louis, MO; one great-granddaughter and one on the way; several loving nieces and nephews in Effingham and Omaha.
Preceding her in death were her parents; husband Albert; son Michael; twin baby boys; two grandchildren; and three brothers.
The family would like to express their gratitude to all her wonderful caregivers who made it possible for her to stay in her home.
